Stroke

Brain Aneurysm

A brain aneurysm is a ballooning or bulging out of an artery where the wall is weak. A brain aneurysm may allow blood to leak into the subarachnoid space around the brain, causing damage to brain cells

Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)

An arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a vascular malformation of the brain and spinal cord. Within the vascular system there is a fast (high pressure) delivery of nutrients and oxygen in the arteries and a slow (low pressure) return of waste back to the heart and lungs. Capillaries, nutrient exchange centers throughout your body, are what safely bridge the high pressure arteries to the low pressure veins. In patients with AVM these capillaries are entirely absent and instead there is a dangerous, abnormal connection between the high pressure arteries and the low pressure thinly-walled veins, which are not biologically designed to handle high arterial pressures.

Brain Dural Arteriovenous Fistula

A dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) is a vascular malformation of the brain and spinal cord.

Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease develops when the major arteries in the neck become narrowed or blocked by the buildup of fatty substances and cholesterol deposits called plaque.

Emergent Large Vessel Occlusion (ELVO)

Acute stroke is caused by a blockage in an intracranial vessel and is leading cause of long term disability. Emergent Large Vessel Occlusion (ELVO) describes the sickest/neediest of the stroke patients and may be the most time-sensitive diagnosis in medicine.

ELVO simplifies communication across systems of care: we have stroke APP’s that meet all patients at the door and deliver patients through their entire continuum of care.

Mechanical thrombectomy is the standard of care for ELVO out to 24 hours from last seen well.
