Acoustic Neuroma

Condition

Acoustic neuroma, also known as vestibular schwannoma, is a rare, slow growing non-cancerous tumor that grows on the hearing and balance nerves in the brain. They may be accompanied by hearing loss, tinnitus, and slight imbalance.

Common treatment options at Rhode Island Hospital include a single session radiation treatment such as Gamma Knife or CyberKnife. Occasionally, for larger tumors, surgical removal of the tumor is the best approach and often done with our otolaryngology team.
