Biography
Background
Elias Shaaya, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, focusing on cerebrovascular disease at Brown University Health. He is affiliated with both the neurosurgery and neurointerventional radiology programs as well as the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Rhode Island Hospital.
Dr. Shaaya earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Harvard University, followed by a medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He also completed his neurosurgery residency and a neurointerventional radiology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital through the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
His clinical expertise spans both spinal and cerebrovascular conditions and is deeply engaged in advancing neurosurgical care through both practice and research. Dr. Shaaya has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed academic journals and authored chapters in leading neurosurgical textbooks. He has presented at national neurosurgical conferences and was a collaborator on the Intelligent Spinal Interface project with the Brown Neuromotion Lab, with Dr. David Borton, which focused on trying to restore function in patients with spinal cord injuries.
Dr. Shaaya is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery.
He is fluent in Arabic, English, and French.
